You Are What You Eat: A Hands On Edible Cosmetics Workshop

If we look at the ingredient lists of some of the products we use on a daily basis we will find words we can hardly pronounce in the ingredient names, let alone know what they are and how they effect our bodies and the environment. The first part of this workshop will examine the problems (extraction, and production) associated with toxic chemicals found in cosmetics and their effects on the environment and on our personal health. We will go over some of the most common toxic ingredients found in cosmetics.

The second part of the workshop will outline how to use food and common cooking ingredients such as fruits, veggies, spices and oils to make home made cosmetics and body care items. This workshop will include ingredients and therapeutic effects, as well as recipes for hair care and skin care. Workshop participants will have a chance to make a “Chocolate Mint” or a “Ginger Bread” Sugar Scrub to take home with them.
