Meet the Coordinators
Learn more below about the passion team that leads Dig In's gardening seasons and events
Denelle Carvalho
Coordinator
Denelle Carvalho is a Geography student and a campus agriculture coordinator. She has worked with Dig In! since 2018, after taking a first-year food systems course and becoming inspired to convert unused spaces on campus into productive gardens. She is proud of how Dig In’s day-to-day operations- such as hosting open workdays, garden planning meets, and community harvest meals, echo its philosophy of building community around food.
Denelle is excited to continue gardening with Dig In! in the 2021 growing season, and to continue growing Dig In’s collaborative relationships with other urban agriculture projects, urban farms, and environmental justice groups.

Samantha Fassnacht
Coordinator
Samantha is a 4th year UofT undergraduate student (currently on PEY) studying computer science and environmental studies. She has been passionate about environmental issues and sustainability since high school, and she became involved with Dig In during her first year at UofT.
Samantha became a Dig In co-coordinator 2 years ago. As an avid gardener since childhood, Samantha is eager to share her enthusiasm for gardening with others and to share sustainable, home-grown food with her community. In addition, Samantha is focused on using technology to improve sustainability both through in career and in gardening. She's looking forward to planning for the next growing season!

Samantha Lucchetta
Former Coordinator/UofT Alumni
Sam is a former Coordinator for Dig In! and a recent UofT alumni. She joined Dig In! in 2017 after suddenly discovering her passion for gardening and urban agriculture. Alongside other Dig In! members, Sam helped to establish several campus gardens and facilitate community meal events. She considers Dig In! her favourite part of her student experience.

Although she has graduated, Sam still finds ways to stay involved with Dig In! and with UofT's environmental community.
Kristy Bard
Staff Advisor/Coordinator
Kristy Bard is a staff member and a former coordinator who has volunteered with Dig In! since 2010. In collaboration with others, she helped refurbish the Anthropology Greenhouse in 2011. Ever since this has been a space where we start our seedlings in the spring, and grow food year round. Currently she provides advice to student volunteers and coordinators.
In 2014, Kristy started Pomona Permaculture, where she grows food on land she bought near Flesherton, Ontario. Follow Pomona Farm on her website and Instagram!
