The Urban Agriculture Facilitator will be responsible for sustaining and expanding the University of Toronto Campus Agriculture Project (UTCAP), based at Hart House, during the fall and winter semesters. The Facilitator will be responsible for identifying programming opportunities and for administrative duties during the agricultural off-season, to ensure that a) students interested in urban agriculture are continuously engaged throughout the academic year and that b) the Campus Agriculture Project acquires all necessary resources and administrative supports to thrive in the 2011 growing season.

Specific duties will include a) creating a proposal for the UofT Department of Facilities and Planning outlining potential expansion sites for the 2011 growing season b) researching, compiling, and completing grant and/or funding applications c) maintaining connections with faculty and academic departments to nurture future research and/or coursework opportunities connected to urban agriculture d) coordinating events, workshops, and socials to educate students about urban agriculture and to strengthen the campus community’s engagement with food issues

Alongside staff, faculty, and student leaders already working around campus agriculture, the Facilitator will experience first-hand the challenges involved with piloting a grassroots environmental initiative; they will develop fundamental skills for future engagement with the green and/or voluntary sector.

Qualified applicants will have demonstrated a working knowledge of urban agriculture, food politics, and/or issues surrounding food security; applicants should be motivated, independent, and resourceful . Excellent writing and research skills are essential for this position, as are computer skills relevant to the creation of reports, presentations, and web pages.
