On Saturday October 26th, Dig In! Campus Agriculture facilitated a Vermicomposting Workshop at the Beyond Green Environmental Youth Summit held at the University of Toronto.
Workshop participants came from all over Canada and were interested in learning more about how to introduce vermicomposting into their homes and classrooms. Most participants expressed a desire to throw out less. Vermicomposting offers an excellent solution by turning kitchen food waste into a natural and beneficial fertilizer for plants. Home bins can be small, tucked away underneath a kitchen sink, and are perfect for urban apartment dwellers. I’d like to thank Nicole Beuglet, Dig In! volunteer/intern/work study, for co-facilitating this workshop, and all of the participants who helped make this workshop an interactive and interesting discussion.

A Worm Share event is coming up this Wednesday October 30th, 4pm-6pm at Evergreen Brickworks (550 Bayview Ave.) in the greenhouse. This is a great event to attend to get some worms to start your own vermicomposting bin, ask questions, get info from the Toronto Compost Leaders, and share your experiences.
Email: compostleaders@gmail.com to reserve some worms
