Urban agriculture is a great initiative for the mind, body and the soul. I came across an interesting twist of urban ag that benefits all three and maximizes one’s relaxation time; a spa garden! Julie, a blogger for Etsy’s “How To” page, recently converted to a smaller living space and as a fellow urban agriculturalist began searching for ways to be able to continue her green interest within her new “Tiny Palace.”
Julie stumbled across a great guide to help her adjust to her new lifestyle called, “A Little Piece of Earth: How to Grow Your Own Food in Small Spaces” by Maria Finn. Finn, who also lives in a limited space on a houseboat, has a huge rooftop garden that helps to revitalize small-scale farming initiatives. In her book she takes a creative spin on the traditional garden and rather than utilizing the produce for food, she outlines how to grow a garden that will make your trips to the spa more accessible. From homemade and home-grown bath salts, to face masks to teas, this book is a great source for gardeners who feel they lack enough space to get planting.
