Seed Library at New College

Did you know that there is a seed library at New College? Right inside the Wilson library, there is a seed library which everyone has free access to! Sign out some seeds for your garden this year, return some later in the season, and contribute to a community built and driven seed-sharing resource! There is also a seed library branch at UofT’s iSchool, and one coming to Regis College. Wow! So many places to access and donate seeds! It’s also a great place to get more information about how to grow different kinds of food crops, and the requirements of each plant.

In February of 2014, we held a Seed Drive at New College to help launch the library and stock it up with great seeds for use by the community. Dig In! Campus Agriculture Network, the Toronto Seed Library, and lots of other folks were present to help with the processing and cataloging of seeds.

Dig In! donated lots of seeds we had saved over the 2013 growing season, including radish, beans, dill, and flax!

We’ve also made use of the New College Seed Library during our Block Shop Workshop, to pick up some eggplant and pepper seeds. Thanks, New College Seed Library! We’ll be sure to be promote the seed libraries on campus and make them a part of our orientation and training sessions for our garden coordinators. If you’re interested in becoming a garden coordinator with Dig In!, drop us a line at campusagriculture@gmail.com.
