The Institutional Sustainability (ENV307) course requires students to implement an environmental project on campus. One group has decided to take the initiative (with monetary support from UTERN) to design and install a rainwater harvesting system for Sky Garden. Rainwater harvesting is a sustainable method of recycling rainwater as it reduces the reliance of freshwater resources. Although the site already has a drip irrigation system installed, the garden requires the use of freshwater for irrigating planters (not connected to the system) and as solvent for the fertilizer. This project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer semester and is a good example that small projects can have great green benefits!
