Miriam and Bonnie weed the Willcocks planters and harvest some green onions.
This week we focused our efforts on weeding around the plants to promote healthy growth. We weeded the Willcocks planters, Hart House plot, and the UTSU plot as well. We used a loop hoe to weed the larger beds, saving time and energy.
Bonnie thins out clover.
We planted clover in the Willcocks planters to bring nitrogen and moisture in the soil. When the clover gets too big you can pull it back from plants to give them more room to grow and to allow oxygen flow between plants. You can also pull out some of the clover to thin it out.
You can see the small cucumber vine wrapped around the sunflower stalk.
We planted sunflowers next to cucumber. You can use the sunflower stalks as a trellis for the cucumber to grow up.
nasturtium
The nasturtiums we planted in Willcocks are blooming! They are beautiful and edible.
